Valentine for a Liar, Singleton Hippie Art

Valentine For a Liar
(c) Singleton 2010 , Words and Hippie Artwork
SOLD
Cherry filled words
lined up in cheap little boxes,
beribboned
and glittered
and half price the morning after they're uttered....
I couldn't be bothered to listen,
but just so you know....
This velvet valentine's for you...
in all the cream filled colors
of yesterday's candy....
11 x 15 Watercolor on Strathmore coldpress. Sometimes in the deep dark wee hours of madness, we realize, lies are the biggest tell-tale truth ever told. This is the story of that discovery. Clink! To my little hippie child, embrace the moment, and be thankful, not for the tacky little stories they told...but the window of truth it opened. Have wings, little one...

Making up with the Moon, Singleton Hippie Art

Making up with The Moon
(C) Singleton 2009
SOLD

I danced barefooted
in the blue green tidal pool...
a make believe paisley water garden,
salty and cool..
And waved good~bye to
The Ocean.

She was
running off to meet Eternity,
her giant seafoam petticoat dragging the sand...
trinkets and treasures tumbling from her
pockets...

A love affair that never ended....

And then I felt you...
there in the night....
in the damp seaside breeze...
saw you in the face of the Moon...
smiling...

God, I love fairytales....

Artwork 8 1/2 by 11.Colored markers, pencils, ink and memories from hippie beach on cardstock.

Singleton Hippie Art, The Girl with The Swirl

The Girl with The Swirl
(c) Singleton 2009
SOLD

And in the morning....
Long before sunrise,
wide eyes
and the scratchy sound
of the Morning News
wakes the world,
She's a Mermaid....

Finger painting little "I love you"s...
in the sand...
Splashing in paisley colored tidal pools...
gathering periwinkles for hide and sink,
Etch~a~sketching tatted lace
from the footprints of
tiny sideways crabs
and Seagulls on parade...

The Girl with The Swirl...

9 x 12 Watercolor with colored pencils, markers and sharpies. Because I believe in the Ocean. And in 10 days, she'll believe in me again...

Singleton Hippie Art, The Psychedelic Sea, The Original

Psychedelic Sea

(C) Singleton 2009
SOLD

He followed the sound,
guitar strings and tambourines,
southern voices in the wind...
knowing that
there in the nightcrowd
he would find me,
barefooted and gypsy dressed,
dancing in the ocean spray...

Full moons,
martini moons,
and a gazillion empty moons
have passed...

And I go
there still...
a mermaid ghost...
dancing on the dunes,
at the edge
of
a
psychedelic sea....

And in the wind,
I hear him laughing...

Knowing...

Remembering what it was like
to be
Free....

11 by 15 original on heavyweight Strathmore watercolor cold press. Watercolors, Acrylics, colored pencils and Ink...The tattered peace sign was drawn, crumpled, and abandoned on the porch for months before being rescued to rest like a hurricane in the center of this picture. The mermaid was born of another thought, another memory, a dream...that was never finished, and probably never will be, so she's come back to visit the sea. Letters were lifted from an old magazine. Together, they make the Psychedelic Sea...A collage, of sorts.

Hippie Singleton Art, Peace~Let it Shine

Peace, Let it Shine
(C) Singleton 2009

Sunrain....
the light early morning
glitter of a lazy
sun
stretching...
her wispy golden arms
reaching,
blonde locks cascading upward,
caught in the sudden
static electricity of a new day...

Peace rises...
And while the night
rolls over,
covers his head
with the thick
warm blanket of yesterday,
I salute the sun

and embrace the second chance
today brings...

Original hippie mandala, a tribute to the Sun and the power of hope....Colored markers, pencils, sharpie on archival heavy weight paper. Drawn, colored and collaged onto a vintage vinyl LP...The Doors~Waiting for the Sun. 12 inches across, 12 inches high

Self Portrait in the Waves, Singleton Hippie Art

Self Portrait
in the Waves
(c) Singleton

Tumbling
face first,
knees scraping,
drowning in ice cold foam,
green beer bottles
everywhere...

and then the Sun...
Upside down
and warm,
just a little deeper...
past the cold acqua skies...

and it's raining somewhere,
I'm drenched....

Floating....
to the bottom....
ribbons of fluorescent seawood
tangling in my hair,
spaghetti soft...and dancing...

Until
my chin scrapes the sand...
and blue toes scrunch into
the soggy face of a drunken sunset
and push...

Up, up, up...

"Don't breathe until you hear the waves"....

A psychedelic memory on 9 x 12 cold press watercolor paper....I've almost drowned a gazillion times....in water, love, Michelob lights, Friday nights, debt, the dark dark places of my mind...and everytime, on Angel's wings....I've pushed off from the bottom...
Clink! To now, and next time, and the ageless reflection of the hippie at the bottom....dancing until it's time to come up for air...

Little White Lies, Singleton Hippie Art

Little White Lies
(c) Singleton 2009
SOLD

Standing over me
like an aging rock star,
wearing his crystal blue eyes like
bling...
he muttered
"Silly little girl
with all your peace~love hoo~hah,
who do you think believes you?"

And I never lifted my head,
never let go of the colors,
the lines,
the flow...
Never let go of the spirit...

"I do"....

Drawn on reclaimed cardstock....colored markers, pencils, ink, peace, love, and yesterday.

Love Now

SOLD

I sing...
Ten thousand
sweet nothings
never whispered in your ear....
And time has wings...

Say it now....
In sidewalk chalk colors....
LOVE.....

Over and Over Again...

LOVE...

Love may last forever, but these moments do not
They keep coming and going, each one faster than the one before
ten til two in the morning, two past ten at night
I Love You
so while the world around me lays asleep
I creep out into the street
scribbling,
with my chin on my knees
chalk in my fingers
and you in my heart

...Love

"Just give me Peace" she said, Singleton, Hippie Art

"Just Give Me Peace" she said....
(c) Singleton 2008

Over and over again,
a mantra,
a record grooving, grinding
grating,
on the same old words
makin' music
outa
vinyl dreams.

She dances in the dark,
in the early mornin'
peace,
makin' love to the
new day,
gifted,
free.....
scribblin' love letters to the past,
stone washed,
torn,
and raveled.....

but,
it's all the same....
a mantra,
a record,
grooving, grinding, grating
on the same old words....

"Just give me peace" she said....

And in the wind,
she heard him say
"Amen"

Colored pencils, markers, and Ink on cardstock. (c) 2008 Singleton.

Pixies for Peace, Singleton Hippie Art

Pixies for Peace
(c) Singleton 2008
Featured here now

I twirl my hair...
fingertips twyning,
macrame'ing
braiding
twisting
a cobweb of
yellow,
golden,
peace ~love for free,
casting
shadows on your dashboard...
christmas tinsel
scattered everywhere...
the tell-tale signs I've been here....

I fold tin foil,
roll it,
coil it
into sudden snakes,
1000 peace signs,
and suspend them
in
mid~air flight,
on broken branches,
graffitied stop signs,
broken bottle necks....

And in the glimmer,
the simmer,
the aftermath,
I watch you,
in make~believe...

smiling.....

When Pixies make Peace, Singleton Hippie Art

When Pixies make Peace
(c) Singleton 2008
On Parade Soon

I wadded it all up,
the burnt orange sunflowered sheets,
the sandy cat hair littered kitchen floor,
the margarita glasses with the peeling
paint that
kissed your lips,
left salty tattoos
on your chin,
your smile,
floating on the rim.

I packed it all up
and scooped it into yesterday,
an overstuffed pillow
tossed carelessly on the floor.

And in this pixie-ixie land I
live in.....

I can't wait to have a pillow fight.....

To bonk you in the head with
all your
"hey, I've got an idea"s
and your barbie doll suitcases stuffed to
the brim,
to take you out at the knees
with all the "could've beens" and
"should've beens"
and
then

collapse
in a heap,

carelessly tossed on the floor....

laughing.....

Fairytales and Other Fables Singleton Outsider hippie art

Fairytales and other Fables
(C) Singleton 2008

Featured soon at Cafepress.Com

Falling,
helplessly
tumbling
through the
looking glass,
the make-shift mirror,
the flat lined ocean,
and then
floating,
drowning,
buried in underwater
petticoats
and pretty little stories,
listening
for the quiet to come...

But she held the tickets,
the 50/50 raffle stubs,
the pink "Get out Free" cards
and it was raining,
and she was crying,
and tossing them overboard,
pennies in an endless fountain....
win, lose or draw....

bread crumbs
for hungry fish.....

Your face....
mine....
two fingers up,
swaying
saying,
singing,
screaming
"Just give me peace...."

And we're a chorus,
an army,
a first grade parade
of
wanna be's,
need to be's,
"Can't you see?s".....

And the beat goes on.....

True Story, Singleton 2008 Hippie Art

True Story
SOLD
(c) Singleton 2008

98 pages of
Bohemian
love,
circles of fate,
planes falling
from the sky....
My story.

The only one I know.
The true story.
The one they never believe.

And you laughed
and threw back
your beer and
said "Cheers to the lady whose gonna save the world with just one word",
not believing or seeing the change in the mirror,
and I laughed
when we
said good~night
and you realized
you were
smiling through each story,
twirling,
spinning,
dancing.....
On your hateful Friday night.

The night you'd promised to the blues.....

"Peace".....
I whispered over my shoulder
in closing ceremonial fashion,
and you smiled again....

I know,
I saw it in the mirror.....

I Still Believe, Singleton 2008 Hippie Art

I Still Believe
(c) Singleton 2008

Fires
splashing
spitting,
snakes gone mad,
building anthills
in the garden...

Havoc raining
tea colored stories,
dripping,
slipping,
sepia maybes on the sunset....

But not today.

I believe in peace and love
and damned if
you're gonna
rain
on my
parade.

The Invitation, Singleton 2008 Outsider Hippie Art

The Invitation
(c) Singleton 2008
Family Collection

Elbows on the bar,
black beer coddled,
warming,
a mosquito pond
at his fingertips....
He sat,
sipping the same
old nightime magic,
waiting
on change
to come
slipping through
the roadside doors.

He wasn't expecting
the butterfly,
accidentally
momentarily
lost by fate,
flitting in and flitting out,
just long enough to
brush him,
rush him...

And in in the days
and nights that followed,
he watched for her,
left the doors open,
the windows wide,
eyes waiting....
but,
Peace is a passion dance
and she had whispered
without words,
the invitation that
was always there...

"Come Dance with Me....."

The Gift, Singleton 2008 Hippie Art

The Gift
(c) Singleton 2008
SOLD

Little signs,
yellow wings,
forgotten songs,
martini moons,
stacking,
unfolding like perfect paper dolls
and landing,
dancing,
at my feet.....
bread crumbs in the forest...

"This way"......
And I almost didn't go,
weary of the whisper on my neck....
"This way"....
a little louder,
a Stevie Ray Vaughn
lull~a~bye
slowly
gently
rocking my world.

And then I knew.

Door number one.
Two.
Three.

"This way".....
I walked around them all
and there,
where it had been all
along was

The Gift....

Choose Peace,
and
ride with me.....

Just Maybe, Singleton 2008, Outsider Hippie Art

JUST MAYBE
(c) Singleton 2008
Now featured at
Cafe Press....
Peace, love, maybe

He flittered down,
in his patent leather suit,
black and yellow pin-striped,
talking to my soul....
strutting on the fence line
daring me to follow him,
chase him,
dance with him....
the butterfly with zebra lines
and tell-tale wings....

But I didn't.

And he flew away.....
The elusive dream wrapped temptress.

Bathwater days turned cold and
wet
and nights grew hour by
lonely hour longer
until I knew...

Until I danced to patent leather
music,
the tribal sound of
"Come hither",
primal background noise
filtering,
flooding,
pushing me on...

Until I crossed the fenceline.....

And he whispered
through the haze,
"I'm so glad you came to get me..."

Behind the butterfly, Singleton 2008 , Outsider Hippie Art

Behind the Butterfly
(c) Singleton 2008

"You hide there,
behind your peace~love
hoo~hah,
rattling change-the-world coins
in your hand-me-down levis,
inviting chaos
in through
your kitchen
door....
and asking
it in for tea"

"Hmmmm"
I whisper
from behind
veiled wings...
rattling found trinkets
for the sake of good luck,
and say
"I'll take that as a compliment"...
