Self Portrait in the Waves, Singleton Hippie Art

Self Portrait
in the Waves
(c) Singleton

Tumbling
face first,
knees scraping,
drowning in ice cold foam,
green beer bottles
everywhere...

and then the Sun...
Upside down
and warm,
just a little deeper...
past the cold acqua skies...

and it's raining somewhere,
I'm drenched....

Floating....
to the bottom....
ribbons of fluorescent seawood
tangling in my hair,
spaghetti soft...and dancing...

Until
my chin scrapes the sand...
and blue toes scrunch into
the soggy face of a drunken sunset
and push...

Up, up, up...

"Don't breathe until you hear the waves"....

A psychedelic memory on 9 x 12 cold press watercolor paper....I've almost drowned a gazillion times....in water, love, Michelob lights, Friday nights, debt, the dark dark places of my mind...and everytime, on Angel's wings....I've pushed off from the bottom...
Clink! To now, and next time, and the ageless reflection of the hippie at the bottom....dancing until it's time to come up for air...

And, you know, they told me that if I couldn't breathe to just scream... that screaming would force me to exhale, so when I couldn't breathe I remembered their words and I tried to scream and all that came out was a whisper...

And from here,

love the new painting you are young at heart and thats were it counts.
i loved reading this one. i love the ocean and it reminded me of the early years of tackling the surf and going for the tumbles. the ocean is beautiful we are lucky ones to live in florida.
love and peace!

RAchel...Ahhhh, there's nothing like the ocean....and the healing power of every wave, every broken shell gifted to the sand, every sunrise lifted to the sky...I cannot imagine being without it....And God knows, I respect her...she's strong...and wild...and bigger than life! Peace and love to you, too, friend:)
