The Girl with the Peace Tattoo, Singleton Hippie Art

The Girl with the Peace Tattoo
(C) Singleton 2008

She was there
in the crowd,
Leon Russell on the stage,
a barefooted ballerina
flitting over mud puddles
and ice chests,
totally free...

And behind the pink
cloak of yesterday,
she still dances...

and every now and then...
someone notices
the tattoo....

Sometimes you have to go back,
to get it right. 8 1/2 by 11 on cardstock. Colored pencils, ink, markers, Michelobs, peace and love. I was a hippie then. And I thought I was an artist. But nobody put the two of them together...

Souvenier, (c) Singleton 2008 hippie art

Souvenier
(c) Singleton 2008

Wet T shirts piled on the floor,
faces and places
covered in sand
and yesterday's salt....
wilting,
and waiting their turn for
tomorrow....

And i tiptoe over them in the morning,
psychedelic jelly fish fading in their has~been glory,
souveniers
of
another
night
dredging
sand dollars
from the mouths of
yesterday's peace......

"Just give me Peace" she said, Singleton, Hippie Art

"Just Give Me Peace" she said....
(c) Singleton 2008

Over and over again,
a mantra,
a record grooving, grinding
grating,
on the same old words
makin' music
outa
vinyl dreams.

She dances in the dark,
in the early mornin'
peace,
makin' love to the
new day,
gifted,
free.....
scribblin' love letters to the past,
stone washed,
torn,
and raveled.....

but,
it's all the same....
a mantra,
a record,
grooving, grinding, grating
on the same old words....

"Just give me peace" she said....

And in the wind,
she heard him say
"Amen"

When Pixies make Peace, Singleton Hippie Art

When Pixies make Peace
(c) Singleton 2008
On Parade Soon

I wadded it all up,
the burnt orange sunflowered sheets,
the sandy cat hair littered kitchen floor,
the margarita glasses with the peeling
paint that
kissed your lips,
left salty tattoos
on your chin,
your smile,
floating on the rim.

I packed it all up
and scooped it into yesterday,
an overstuffed pillow
tossed carelessly on the floor.

And in this pixie-ixie land I
live in.....

I can't wait to have a pillow fight.....

To bonk you in the head with
all your
"hey, I've got an idea"s
and your barbie doll suitcases stuffed to
the brim,
to take you out at the knees
with all the "could've beens" and
"should've beens"
and
then

collapse
in a heap,

carelessly tossed on the floor....

laughing.....

Fairytales and Other Fables Singleton Outsider hippie art

Fairytales and other Fables
(C) Singleton 2008

Featured soon at Cafepress.Com

Falling,
helplessly
tumbling
through the
looking glass,
the make-shift mirror,
the flat lined ocean,
and then
floating,
drowning,
buried in underwater
petticoats
and pretty little stories,
listening
for the quiet to come...

But she held the tickets,
the 50/50 raffle stubs,
the pink "Get out Free" cards
and it was raining,
and she was crying,
and tossing them overboard,
pennies in an endless fountain....
win, lose or draw....

bread crumbs
for hungry fish.....

Your face....
mine....
two fingers up,
swaying
saying,
singing,
screaming
"Just give me peace...."

And we're a chorus,
an army,
a first grade parade
of
wanna be's,
need to be's,
"Can't you see?s".....

And the beat goes on.....

True Story, Singleton 2008 Hippie Art

True Story
SOLD
(c) Singleton 2008

98 pages of
Bohemian
love,
circles of fate,
planes falling
from the sky....
My story.

The only one I know.
The true story.
The one they never believe.

And you laughed
and threw back
your beer and
said "Cheers to the lady whose gonna save the world with just one word",
not believing or seeing the change in the mirror,
and I laughed
when we
said good~night
and you realized
you were
smiling through each story,
twirling,
spinning,
dancing.....
On your hateful Friday night.

The night you'd promised to the blues.....

"Peace".....
I whispered over my shoulder
in closing ceremonial fashion,
and you smiled again....

I know,
I saw it in the mirror.....

I Still Believe, Singleton 2008 Hippie Art

I Still Believe
(c) Singleton 2008

Fires
splashing
spitting,
snakes gone mad,
building anthills
in the garden...

Havoc raining
tea colored stories,
dripping,
slipping,
sepia maybes on the sunset....

But not today.

I believe in peace and love
and damned if
you're gonna
rain
on my
parade.

The Tornado, Singleton, 2008 Outsider Hippie Art

The Tornado
SOLD
(c) Singleton 2008

Black and white
funnel cloud,
leather studs
and the sound of
a train
roaring
grinding
sliding,
touching down,
picking up,
scattering words
out of order
and upside down,
on their sides,
empty coffee cups
rolling in the street.

But I'm the puzzle,
aren't I?

And I gather
Sunday trinkets,
Friday lines,
and the tattered wings
of spent tornados
in a collection plate,
take them home
and glue them back together....

The Invitation, Singleton 2008 Outsider Hippie Art

The Invitation
(c) Singleton 2008
Family Collection

Elbows on the bar,
black beer coddled,
warming,
a mosquito pond
at his fingertips....
He sat,
sipping the same
old nightime magic,
waiting
on change
to come
slipping through
the roadside doors.

He wasn't expecting
the butterfly,
accidentally
momentarily
lost by fate,
flitting in and flitting out,
just long enough to
brush him,
rush him...

And in in the days
and nights that followed,
he watched for her,
left the doors open,
the windows wide,
eyes waiting....
but,
Peace is a passion dance
and she had whispered
without words,
the invitation that
was always there...

"Come Dance with Me....."

The Gift, Singleton 2008 Hippie Art

The Gift
(c) Singleton 2008
SOLD

Little signs,
yellow wings,
forgotten songs,
martini moons,
stacking,
unfolding like perfect paper dolls
and landing,
dancing,
at my feet.....
bread crumbs in the forest...

"This way"......
And I almost didn't go,
weary of the whisper on my neck....
"This way"....
a little louder,
a Stevie Ray Vaughn
lull~a~bye
slowly
gently
rocking my world.

And then I knew.

Door number one.
Two.
Three.

"This way".....
I walked around them all
and there,
where it had been all
along was

The Gift....

Choose Peace,
and
ride with me.....

Just Maybe, Singleton 2008, Outsider Hippie Art

JUST MAYBE
(c) Singleton 2008
Now featured at
Cafe Press....
Peace, love, maybe

He flittered down,
in his patent leather suit,
black and yellow pin-striped,
talking to my soul....
strutting on the fence line
daring me to follow him,
chase him,
dance with him....
the butterfly with zebra lines
and tell-tale wings....

But I didn't.

And he flew away.....
The elusive dream wrapped temptress.

Bathwater days turned cold and
wet
and nights grew hour by
lonely hour longer
until I knew...

Until I danced to patent leather
music,
the tribal sound of
"Come hither",
primal background noise
filtering,
flooding,
pushing me on...

Until I crossed the fenceline.....

And he whispered
through the haze,
"I'm so glad you came to get me..."

Behind the butterfly, Singleton 2008 , Outsider Hippie Art

Behind the Butterfly
(c) Singleton 2008

"You hide there,
behind your peace~love
hoo~hah,
rattling change-the-world coins
in your hand-me-down levis,
inviting chaos
in through
your kitchen
door....
and asking
it in for tea"

"Hmmmm"
I whisper
from behind
veiled wings...
rattling found trinkets
for the sake of good luck,
and say
"I'll take that as a compliment"...

I've known you forever, Singleton 2008 outsider hippie art

I've known you forever
(C) Singleton 2008
Private Collection

I met an angel
by fate
or happenchance.
sitting out a dance
on the sidewalk of these pages,
and he whispered
to my soul,
in his raspy
yesterday voice,
with old words
in an old language,
the one word I've
waited to hear.....
Eternity.....

And I knew then,
what I had to whisper back.......

Peace.......

Tink you, baby, Singleton 2007 Outsider Hippie Art

Tink you, Baby!
(c) Singleton 2007
SOLD

Catch me if you can,
a butterfly parade in the wet morning grass,
yellow and mellow, dancing in pinstriped socks,
in the face of graffiti splashed on a rickety
fence,
an underpass,
a concrete wall....
"She was here"......

In Christmas tinsel,
spider web strings,
silvery summer rain,
the last strand, the next strand, the lost strand
of long blonde hair......

Catch me if you can,
in the words of a song,
that song, this one,
your song, mine....
Every song ever written.....

In the cusp of the moon,
Martini side up,
a barefooted shadow
three dunes away

At a red light,
that grabs you,
that forgets to turn green....
Under your tires,
gravel that spits.....
that crunches and
calls my name.....

In a popsicle melting
coffee with cream
in cowboy boots
from a Johnny Cash dream...

Catch me, if you can.....

And there will be peace, Singleton 2007 Outsider hippie art

And there will be Peace
(c) Singleton 2007

The hawk hovered
gliding/slicing
papercutting the sky
into a zillion little
pieces of
baby blue
indigo blue
forgotten blue
confetti
raining
falling
crashing
down

Into the moonlit and henna dirty
mudpuddle

And I watched my reflection there....
waiting....

On the sky to sink
a thousand 501 blues
in jagged little pieces
to the very bottom,
heavy
and fading...

And for the sun to rise....
to reach with her long dangly arms
and pluck
blue diamonds from
the earth,
quilt them together into the satin sheeted sky
of a new day,
my day,
this day.....

waiting for the winds to blow....

All I want for Christmas, Singleton Outsider Hippie Art

All I want for Christmas
(c) Singleton 2007
She whispered to
the wind,
who always listens,
to the painted fence,
a wooden confidant,
the bouganvilla,
with it's drunken
blooms,
cups filled overflowing,
moonshine for the souls
of butterflies...

"All I want for Christmas,
are trinket twigs
to build this nest,
this next,
this everything to come,
and stones
to line the
skipping path,
to
rock and roll
me home....

All I want for Christmas
is a little
taste of peace....
a little
moonshine
for my soul....

And the butterfly
answered,
by tipping his cup,
and spilling
glittered wine
in the wind.....

Superstitions, Singleton Outsider Hippie Art

Superstitions
(c) Singleton 2007

She knelt...
The girl with the
silver spoon,
bent and
rusted
scraped
on the sidewalk
from scavenging
food for the soul,
and
placed her hands,
palms down
on the cool
wet earth
to feel it's heartbeat.

And she heard
the trains,
one thousand faces in
the windows
going nowhere,
and the bottom of the ocean,
ten million miles
of
fairytale life
floating,
and
the sound of
color,
never heard by anyone before...

She was the gift.....

The Butterfly Bride, Singleton 2007 Outsider Hippie Art

Butterfly Bride
(c) Singleton 2007
SOLD

You rocked her
you rolled her
you spun her in the sand,
taboo
coquina cocoon
and captured her,
keepsake treasure,
a day in the park...

She said "I do"
and "I will"
and "I am"
and "forever"

but she was
talking to the wind
and you weren't listening,
butterflies
are free.....

in case you didn't notice....
