and make~believes....

A beginning place...."

Into the Woods, Singleton Hippie Art

Into The Woods
(c) Singleton 2011

"They wandered deeper and deeper
into the dampened woods.
She sang to herself
and left little peace~love messages
scribbled with broken sticks
in the wet dirt....
Breadcrumbs...

He cautioned her to be careful,
to watch out for spiders
and snakes
and
quick sand...

She danced in the cobwebs,
wore silver shawls with rhinestone buttons glistening,
alive with legs , crawling
up
and
down.

She filled her pockets with
the empty houses of long~gone snails,
and her imagination
with their stories...

And she laughed at his fears....."

Much later, as rumors and folklore would have it, he wandered there again, and thick in the Forest, he heard her laughter, windchimes clinking, tinking in the breeze. And he saw things...the way he had never before. Sometimes broken sticks are magic wands, after all....

Moon over my Hippie, Singleton Hippie Art

Moon Over My Hippie (c) Singleton 2010 "He laughed and slid one more beer across the bartop, Clink! It was late and we were the only ones left, teetering on the rickety bar stools, falling into each other's arms on the dusty dancefloor... whispering under the Disco lights of another Hippie Moon...." Because sometimes I do carry my paints to the bar...And sometimes it's just Magic...

Tallulah Sees Trails, Singleton Hippie Art

Tallulah Sees Trails
(c) Singleton
Portrait of My Sweet Hippie Cat, a Tribute to Tallulah
SOLD

"Tallulah Joe,
balanced on a tightwire,
Tuxedo legs dangling
lazy,
long,
and so black...that
He's almost Deep Purple
on the Eight Track,
20 years back...

His green eyes wander,
rheumyand irredescent,
circled in slivers of high yellow moons...

and then He sees them...
The make~believe world of a Stoned Cat on the Bar...
Trails...
Ribbons of color,
flashes,
fireworks,
fireflies under disco lights.."

Words and Artwork (C) Singleton 2010
Oh, I'll so miss the ever presence of Tallulah Joe draped on the Bamboo Bar...seeing things we'll never know.
Peaceful disclaimer: Tallulah was rescued from a not so friendly place...Where the bad people go. He settled into a long and happy life here in hippieland....but every now and then, he saw things......every now and then he was haunted.....

Today, he rests in Peace.

Shroom for one More, Singleton Hippie Art

Shroom for One More
(c) Singleton Hippie Art

"Two tattered tents,
one Bayou Blue,
two painted ladies,
one pup,
and three
Coleman specials
tossed like confetti on the river banks....

Our little Tent City...

Hippie Kingdom on the hill...

And when he said...
"Can I come, too?"
I whispered
to his back,
to his shadow...

"Scooch in closer
to the circle,
we've got shroom for one more"

Watercolors and markers scribbled and painted in the Saturday sunshine, while all the neighbors drove by and politely waved and nodded at the 'hippies next door', and the soft purr of Magic's airbrush, paintin' campsite banners, lullabyed me here.....to The Allman Brother's Wanee Fesitval 2011! http://www.waneefestival.com/ We can't wait to get there! :)

Moon over my River, Singleton Hippie Art

Moon Over My River
(c) Singleton 2011
Words and Hippie Artwork

"And there at the muddy banks,
I tiptoed in to my knees,
to my hips,
felt the deep green rush
of darkness
and the blessings of trillion year old sea animals...
watching...
until I was
under
the
water...
until my hair was phosperescent seaweed dancing on the surface...

Until I was free..."

Watercolors, markers and sharpies on the flip side of an abandoned painting.

Peace, Love, and Wanee, Please... Singleton Hippie Art

Peace, Love, and Wanee, Please
Singleton Hippie Art

"He spun the paper his way
and I twirled my hair,
watching him concentrate,
biting his lower lip....
slowly tracing the #2 pencil
back through his memories
until he had it
and pushed the paper
back to me.

'Like this'....he whispered.

And I suddenly saw it like we were
sixteen again..."

Watercolors and sharpies on a Sunday morning. Inspired by a Peace Bird he drew when he was in highschool...and the Freedom Flag of running away to the River. http://www.waneefestival.com/

Blue Henna Hand, Singleton Hippie Art

Blue Henna Hand

the rambling story of my life,
etched forever on my hands...

I'm Old now.
And I'm thankful.

Love Untangled, Singleton Hippie Art

Love Untangled
(c) Singleton 2010-2011
Yup, painted on New Years Eve~right through til the New Day!

I didn't make a scene,
slam the door,
kick the dirt,
spin the tires...

I simply said
Good-bye,
and walked into the
New Year
with arms wide open,
two fingers raised high,
and kissed the sky.

Untangled,
andFree...
Now,
I'm ready for Love"

watercolors, canvas, scribbles, pencil, markers, and all that who~hah on canvas.

Under the Psychedelic Sea, Singleton Hippie Art

Under the Psychedelic Sea
(C) Singleton 2010
Words and Hippie Art for the Spirit

"We float there...
skinny arms and legs tangled up
in love knot puzzles,
and we laugh at the deep, deep waters.

In the cool phospherescent playground
of our imaginations,
we're weightless,
and forever
is a long, long way
up..."

Words and Artwork (c) Singleton 2010

The Color of Drums, Singleton Hippie Art

The Color of Drums
(c) Singleton 2010

"It rained.
Fat,
lazy water balloons falling
from the sky,
plopping and somersaulting off the tin roof.
The wind,
a whipporwill in the distance,
sang to us in chords only a violin knows by name.

And I cried.

Until I heard the drums.

The primitive pounding of my weathered heart.
And yours.

In technicolor rhythm."

Words and hippie artwork (c) Singleton 2010.

Painted on a rainy soulful day. Watercolors, markers, sharpie.

A Butterfly Named Peace

"For a good time,
follow me"
she whispered,
spinning on her heels,

psychedelic pixie dust
trails in her shadow.

And he did..."

Wild Love, Singleton Hippie Art

WILD LOVE
(c) Singleton 2010

We tumble
upside and down,
lazy in laughter,
under a lemonade sky.

We whisper secret endings
to untold stories
in late night,
too tired,
too many Margarita voices...

We run barefooted
in rain the colors of Christmas tree tinsel,
and when
we kiss...

it's wild"

Watercolors, markers, sharpies....Painted in the rain...

Love Hard, Singleton Hippie Art

LOVE HARD
Words and Hippie Artwork
(c) Singleton 2010

"We float...
do the Tango under the rush of high tide,
laugh,
crash,
and swallow Margarita~green waves
in giant gulps,
almost drowning

and then dig our toes in deeper,
Push off from the ocean floor....
And do it again...

Your face is a thousand colors
changing...
sun swept,
and flush
from the high of noon
and the high of now.

Love now...
And Love hard..."

Original watercolors, sharpies, and hippie hoo~hah on Coldpress paper. The sun's shining, the beer is cold, and there's no time like now.....

You Made Me Cry, Hippie Singleton Art

You Made Me Cry
Singleton Hippie Art

Stupid little carnival ride,
with the rinky dink music
and smell of buttered popcorn
dripping everywhere...

Just let me off....

Let me wander
into the crowds,
dirty footed,
in my brown paper bag dress....

Empty except for the colors I carry inside...

"Words and Artwork (C) Singleton 2010
Self portrait after the fight...the first one, the last one, the only one...And I cried.

Singleton Hippie Art, The Crying Moon

(c) Singleton
2009
The Crying Moon

"She sat sky high
in the paisley colored night,
weeping...

and a zillion miles
away
under her tattered lace petticoat,
rhinestone stars twinkling...

the world danced.

Silly little stick people..."

Singleton Hippie Art, The Psychedelic Sea, The Original

Psychedelic Sea

(C) Singleton 2009
SOLD

He followed the sound,
guitar strings and tambourines,
southern voices in the wind...
knowing that
there in the nightcrowd
he would find me,
barefooted and gypsy dressed,
dancing in the ocean spray...

Full moons,
martini moons,
and a gazillion empty moons
have passed...

And I go
there still...
a mermaid ghost...
dancing on the dunes,
at the edge
of
a
psychedelic sea....

And in the wind,
I hear him laughing...

Knowing...

Remembering what it was like
to be
Free....

11 by 15 original on heavyweight Strathmore watercolor cold press. Watercolors, Acrylics, colored pencils and Ink...The tattered peace sign was drawn, crumpled, and abandoned on the porch for months before being rescued to rest like a hurricane in the center of this picture. The mermaid was born of another thought, another memory, a dream...that was never finished, and probably never will be, so she's come back to visit the sea. Letters were lifted from an old magazine. Together, they make the Psychedelic Sea...A collage, of sorts.

Hippie Singleton Art, Peace~Let it Shine

Peace, Let it Shine
(C) Singleton 2009

Sunrain....
the light early morning
glitter of a lazy
sun
stretching...
her wispy golden arms
reaching,
blonde locks cascading upward,
caught in the sudden
static electricity of a new day...

Peace rises...
And while the night
rolls over,
covers his head
with the thick
warm blanket of yesterday,
I salute the sun

and embrace the second chance
today brings...

Original hippie mandala, a tribute to the Sun and the power of hope....Colored markers, pencils, sharpie on archival heavy weight paper. Drawn, colored and collaged onto a vintage vinyl LP...The Doors~Waiting for the Sun. 12 inches across, 12 inches high

Self Portrait in the Waves, Singleton Hippie Art

Self Portrait
in the Waves
(c) Singleton

Tumbling
face first,
knees scraping,
drowning in ice cold foam,
green beer bottles
everywhere...

and then the Sun...
Upside down
and warm,
just a little deeper...
past the cold acqua skies...

and it's raining somewhere,
I'm drenched....

Floating....
to the bottom....
ribbons of fluorescent seawood
tangling in my hair,
spaghetti soft...and dancing...

Until
my chin scrapes the sand...
and blue toes scrunch into
the soggy face of a drunken sunset
and push...

Up, up, up...

"Don't breathe until you hear the waves"....

A psychedelic memory on 9 x 12 cold press watercolor paper....I've almost drowned a gazillion times....in water, love, Michelob lights, Friday nights, debt, the dark dark places of my mind...and everytime, on Angel's wings....I've pushed off from the bottom...
Clink! To now, and next time, and the ageless reflection of the hippie at the bottom....dancing until it's time to come up for air...
