Jack In The Box
JACK
(c) Singleton 2006
SOLD
Drawing 2006; Words 2003
A thousand times
I've wanted to pull your hair
Punch you in the face
Scream into your
Smiling, Jack-in-the-Box face.
Instead I hyperventilate
and have anxiety
and believe in karma
and good
and everything you're not.
Instead, I wait,
haunched on the sidelines.
Cat in the dark.
I won't even have to pounce when the time comes.
The trophy,
destroyed by the battle,
won't even be worth
dragging home.
